Contextual Studies 3- Comedy Research

Honestly I was terrify when Mr.Charles say :

"Okay, next week you

 guys prepare a comedy

individually!"

Crap, I said to myself. I was never make someone laugh on public speaking before. Many questions pop out to me, and the most dynamic is

"What if no people laugh?!"

If that ever happened, I think my face will be like this:

Awkward Awkward Awkward AwkwardAdAwkwwkwarardAwkwardAwkward

Then, my self-awareness aware that if i wanna do really good job on this assignment, I'm going to do some serious research.

After I enjoyed his-style of comedy, I had to admit IT WAS SO 'SYOK' LISTEN TO HIS COMEDY!!!
He oftenly used his own experience as a point of comedy, when he say from his point of view, it was so true and funny. So, what is learn from Harith: You must able to understand your own joke, only that you can make people understand yours.

Rowan Atkinson, I always couldn't remember his name, and throughout sometimes i confuse Rowen Atkinson with Robert Pattinson, ha ha. Rowan Atkinson was more familiar to me as Mr.Bean! One of the hero of my childhood. He has been grown up with the young generation, but when we had grown up, he is old. It was quite sad for me, because i thought he will always be with us as Mr.Bean. This make me realise nothing can be preserve forever. But yet, our heart, our spirit always remember him, Mr.Bean. His spirit will never disappears inside our heart.

So, I research about him, I found out that his facial expressions is the key of his hilarious. And also the black comedy , the ego thing about his role make Mr.bean so stupid. The Stupidness successfully make everyone entertained.

2-dimensional design - self portrait .

Before...
After...
The story of this post begin with our Mr.charles lecturer. He taught us about some movment of art and history of art. So, this eventually lead to my hand-made self portrait. I used some 'used material' to complete this unique task, well the outcome was satisfy to me.
And then of cause in my portrait, i combine some art concept, like renaissances portraits and politic portraits. As you can see, the spaghetti sticks symbolise light that seem like so errogant. Its inspired by those dictactor like Alexander the great, Mao Zedong and Napolean.
Napoleon Bonaparte Mao Zedong
I used some concept of Pop art in which the color look very clear.
Materail I used: 1. Spaghetti sticks
                        2. brown rice
                        3. small rice
                        4. dry leaves

Contextual studies 2 -self-portraits

After some research and thinking, finally it come to the true  self-portraits. With the inspiration of Andy Warhol Pop Art, I realise that each colour of his artwork represent particular meaning. From a series of same photograph but difference colours, it seem to have difference emotion. Neither sad nor happy, I unable to write down, it mean to be feel, FEEL it !

My Self portraits
My Self-portraits is about discovery. I have a lot of curiosity, it seem like born in me, due to this, I curious to myself too. This portraits is like a reflection of my real life, even myself sometimes i don't know who am I. But why so serious? No big deal, let's just flow with feeling, You are what you think!

My self-portraits discover about relationship. Its between the emotion and colours, and between both colours. Various colour of face represent difference emotion. There are anger, happiness, sad, miserable, determination and joyful. Colours of lips symbolise that the type of speech going to say. And the same goes to background.  Guess! besides than the relationship between colour and emotion, the whole portraits looks bright in colour , same with Andy Warhol portraits, which symbolise my colourful and interesting life.

" Every song has a memory; every song has the ability to make or break your heart, shut down the heart, and open the eyes. But I'm afraid if you look a thing long enough; it loses all of its meaning."    Andy Warhol.

Done.

Contextual Studies 1-Research(Self-Portraits)

THE SELF

"The self is an individual person as the object of his or her own reflective consciousness. The self has been studied extensively by philosophers and psychologists and is central to many world religions."
                                                                                                                             self, wikipedia.

For me, Self is a phase full of imaginary and thinking. I often questioning: who am I? through my research then, in the perspective of social psychology, there are two steps involved in the geneses of self, and it going on sequentially. the first step is self differentiation. In a simple words, its means "we must able to recognise our self"

For instant knowledge, mankind are not born with this ability, but infants able to adapt this ability very quickly, within 18 months, they can discriminate their own image from others. Even other animal like apes or even doplins have the ability of self differentiate.

Next, the second steps is role taking. "the process of imaginatively occupying the position of another person and viewing the self and the situation from that person's perspective" Social psychology note. there is the steps where human start to think from other people opinion and try to imagine on the point of view of the particular person.

For human being, The Self is a highly intelligence subject with memory and of course feeling. There are where the word "ego" existed. We think that we are supreme in universe and the ultimate species that responsible to ruled the world.

Although we didn't speak out this idea, but honestly is deep under our conscious awareness.

We love to discover who we are, through thinking? writing or even drawing.

HISTORY OF SELF-PORTRAITS
Throughout the history of human civilisation, drawing is the method to record history and express our deepest feeling. In facts, some of the earliest surviving painted portraits of people who were not kings or emperors, are the funeral portraits that survived in the dry climate of Egypt's Fayum district. These are almost the only paintings from the classical world that have survived, apart from frescos, though many sculptures survive, and portraits on coins.

Besides than Egyptian portraits, One of the best-known portraits in the Western world is Leonardo da Vinci's painting titled Mona Lisa, which is a painting of Lisa del Giocondo. For you information, The world's oldest known portrait was found in 2006 in the Vilhonneur grotto near Angoulême and is thought to be 27,000 years old.

I was wondering as a designer, how artists or designer think about themselves? Which eventually can be seen through their self-portraits. i found out many renaissances artists love to portrait themselves. For example: Leonardo Da Vinci , Gentile Bellini and Albrecht Dürer.

File:Duerer01.jpgFile:Possible Self-Portrait of Leonardo da Vinci.jpgFile:Bellini selfportrait.jpg
Then, modernism art came. Honestly, I was impressed by urban art , which known as the Pop Art. I believe my art work now are unconsciously inspired by him.

ANDY WARHOL STYLE

Yes! Is Andy Warhol. Still wondering who is he? He was the pioneer in Pop Art.  His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture and advertisement that flourished by the 1960s.

“They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.”
― Andy WarholThe Philosophy of Andy Warhol

Some of his famous art-work inspire 21-century greatly. The 32campbell soup can, one of the artwork by Warhol had really transform into real Campbell soup can! this proven his quotes, he do change other peoples thinking.

He is a person who full of fantasy yet these fantasy seem to become reality.  "In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes." He said on 1968. This phenomena now known as "15 minute of fame".

Some of his self-portraits .

He is the one who great in art and commercial. He is a top business man , and yet a great artists. He spend half his life to find the relationship between between this two fields. I think he made it! His work was widely copied, and we can seen it  everywhere. In the point of an designer, I see his artwork as the creepy colour that looked like some kind of magic, it eventually control my feeling, that unbelievable combination of colours  impressed my sensation!
